Day 1: Sai Gon – Ben Tre homestay (L,D)
Pick you up at the hotel in Sai Gon at 08:30am, we depart to a world where water is immense, sky is endless and land is verdant, the Mekong Delta. This is the largest «rice basket» of Vietnam with endless waterways and verdant orchards. Arrive at Hung Vuong Pier (Ben Tre town) 90km far from Sai Gon, embark and cruise along the Bến Tre River– a tributary of Mekong River to discover the local life. Stop at a brick – field belonged to Mr. Tu Lo to see how Vietnamese people made brick by hand and a coconut candy home factory located along the canal to witness the process of making the candies and other souvenirs. Continue the rowing trip through the canals to visit Nhon Thanh village in Ben Tre with some vestiage of the ancient civilization. Stroll around the village to discover local culture, relax in its fresh air and meet with warmhearted local people.
Take a bicycle-cart on the quiet paths, stop to have lunch at the “Coconut green” riverside Hai Ho and then to typical local house to check in. In the afternoon, take cycling trip to Mr. Sau Khanh's home to admire his valuable collection of antiques. Learn about agricultural activities in Vietnam, watching the farmers on the field and probably joining your hands to help them. Prepare your dinner with the local host and overnight in the homestay
Day 02 : Ben Tre – Sa Dec- Long Xuyen (B,L)
After having breakfast, you will visit the local market and the Phu Nhuan temple where you can see an old cycads date back a hundred year. Start a rowing boat trip on Cai Coi canal towards Hung Vuong pier and disembark and transfer on road to Long Xuyen - the heart of Mekong Delta via Sa Dec. In Sa Dec, you will visit Kien An Cung pagoda and Huynh Thuy Le old house, a fantastic fusion of Oriental and Western architecture. The house was built in 1889 by Huynh Thuy Le who was the inspiration for the famous French writer Marguerite Duras to write her novel L’amant (The Lover). Le is the main character in the love story telling of Duras and Le’s first meeting on a ferry connecting Sa Dec and Vinh Long. The novel has been made into a famous film. We then visit the Trung Vuong primary school where her mother - Madame Donadieu had taught. Overnight in Long Xuyen.
Day 03 : Long Xuyen – Saigon (B,L)
In the early morning, visit the Long Xuyen floating market, a bustling and little visited floating market in Mekong Delta. By small boat, we cruise along canals passing locals rowing boat on the way to the market. Land on Cu Lao Ong Ho Island for a rest and stroll around, then continue the boat trip. On the way back to Sai Gon we pay a visit to a Caodai temple in Tan An city. It is not as big as the Cao Dai Holy See in Tay Ninh but still a beautiful replica for some insights into this exotic religion. Return to Saigon. End of tour.
